HOW YOU CAN HELP ENVISION LEWES
People who care about Lewes can make
their concern a reality by establishing a tax-deductible charitable
fund with the GLF. Whatever cause you wish to support - the Lewes
Library, land preservation, Lewes in Bloom, education, the
Canalfront Park, or other worthy charitable activities - the Greater
Lewes Foundation can ensure that your assets will be put to good use
in perpetuity. Once your charitable fund is created, the GLF will
handle all of the administrative requirements including investment,
tax filings and audit, and distribution to the chartable causes that
you specify, in Lewes or elsewhere. You can create your fund during
your lifetime and/or via bequest. Our professional staff is
available to help you develop a charitable plan that meets your
interests.
FUNDS OF THE GREATER LEWES FOUNDATION
The GLF is honored to have been
entrusted by a growing number of individuals and organizations in
Lewes to manage their charitable assets, in perpetuity. Our current
funds include:
CAPE HENLOPEN EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION FUND
(CHEF)
CHEF manages scholarships and other charitable donations made to the
Cape Henlopen School District. During 2007, the Cape Thespians
Scholarship Fund, established by former teacher Chris King, was
placed under the stewardship of CHEF.
CRESSON FOUNDATION FUND
This fund was established by Mike and
Beth Devenis in memory of Jim Cresson, their friend and a former
reporter at the Cape Gazette. An annual essay contest will award a
scholarship to an area student who wishes to pursue a writing
career.
FRIENDS
OF THE LEWES CANALFRONT PARK FUND
This fund manages receipts and distributions for the Friends
organization, whose primary fundraisers are "Taste of Lewes" and an
annual golf tournament. Friends also generates revenue from more
than 300 members, all in support of the Park.
GREATER LEWES COMMUNITY FUND
A permanent endowment that is used by the GLF Board to make grants
each year to local charities.
HON.
GEORGE H.P. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Created by his daughter, Barbara, in honor of Lewes's beloved former
mayor, this fund will soon begin distributing scholarships to
students who wish to follow in Mayor Smith's footsteps as educators.
LEWES CANALFRONT PARK FUND
The balance of the monies raised and pledged during the Park
campaign ended 12/31/06 is maintained in this fund and periodically
distributed to the City of Lewes to help pay for current Park
construction work.
LEWES IN
BLOOM FUND
During 2007, the board of Lewes in Bloom elected to move their
assets to the GLF for ongoing fiscal management. The all-volunteer
Lewes in Bloom plays an important role in the beautification of our
City.
LEWES PRESERVATION FUND
Established by a local resident to preserve key elements of Lewes,
this fund makes periodic grants to local non-profit organizations.
LEWES
PUBLIC LIBRARY TRUST
The GLF is honored to maintain an endowment on behalf of the Lewes
Public Library, to help with its operating costs.
MAUREEN SCHAB FUND FOR EDUCATION
When popular teacher and longtime Lewes resident Maureen Schab
passed away in 2007, her family established this permanent endowment
to provide support for local students. Creation of the Maureen Schab
Fund was enhanced by gifts from dozens of donors from the Lewes area
and elsewhere.
QUEEN
ANNE RAILROAD PROJECT FUND
Progress was made during 2007 with the relocation of the last
remaining Queen Anne Railroad car back to Lewes, where it will be
fully renovated and put on public display.
RAWL-WEBSTER FUND
This fund makes annual grants to non-profit organizations in honor
of Raymond Rawl and Jean Webster, parents of the founding donor.
REHOBOTH BEACH SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB
FOUNDATION
When the Rehoboth Sunrise Rotary decided to create a permanent
endowment to manage the charitable funds that they raise, they chose
the GLF as the simplest and most cost-efficient way to manage that
instrument.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES FUND
The GLF manages all funds for the lively Summer Concert Series held
at Stango Park, and helped its volunteer leaders negotiate
sponsorship for the 2008 series by WSFS Bank.
VILLAGE GREEN FUND
Funds currently being raised on behalf of the Village Green, the
final component of the Lewes Canalfront Park, are managed on behalf
of the City by the GLF.
Creating a
charitable fund with the GLF is easy and there is no cost involved.
All donations to your fund qualify for the highest possible tax
deduction and you retain the ability to direct your grants to
charitable causes of your choice.
