Active Projects

Preserving the places and stories that shape Greater Lewes.

The Greater Lewes Foundation works with community partners to protect important historic sites, preserve local heritage, and ensure these places remain meaningful and accessible for generations to come.

DeVries Monument

Standing near the end of Pilottown Road, the DeVries Monument marks the site of Zwaanendael, the Dutch settlement established in 1631 along what is now the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

GLF has worked alongside the State of Delaware and the City of Lewes to support the restoration of this important historic landmark and help preserve the story of one of Delaware’s earliest European settlements.

Wiltbank Cemetery

Tucked within the greater Lewes area, Wiltbank Cemetery preserves the stories of generations of local families and provides an important connection to the community’s past.

The Greater Lewes Foundation is helping support efforts to preserve the cemetery, document its history, and ensure this significant local site is cared for into the future.
